OpenFile story - At Villa Karuna, a Tamil approach to senior care

Here are some portraits from a story I shot for OpenFile Toronto last month. Villa Karuna is a senior’s care facility established for the Tamil community in Scarborough.

Kanmany Selvanayagam, 91, has been a resident at Villa Karuna for just over a year. “This is such a needed service for everyone,” she says. “I don’t have anyone. I am alone.”

Paramanayagi Sornalingam, 78.

Saraswathy Shanmugarajah, 78, came to Villa Karuna two months ago

Paulina Proulx, 85, both French-Canadian and a Sai Baba devotee, is the only resident of Villa Karuna who isn’t Tamil. She love it here regardless, and is a particular fan of the food served.
