Since beginning my MFA in Documentary Media at Ryerson, things have been utterly hectic and insane, which is not a bad thing as I love the program and the work that I have been doing. Instead of cramming everything that has happened over the last 8 months into one post, I will spread things out. Moving forward, I intend on keeping this blog up to date. I promise..

Here are some portraits from a story I shot for OpenFile Toronto last month. Villa Karuna is a senior’s care facility established for the Tamil community in Scarborough. 

Kanmany Selvanayagam, 91, has been a resident at Villa Karuna for just over a year. “This is such a needed service for everyone,” she says. “I don’t have anyone. I am alone.”

Paulina Proulx, 85, both French-Canadian and a Sai Baba devotee, is the only resident of Villa Karuna who isn’t Tamil. She love it here regardless, and is a particular fan of the food served.

So it has been about six months since I have updated this blog. I have a valid excuse for the lack of content for the first three months (December-March). During this time I travelled to Africa. I spent about 1 month in South Africa, Malawi and Tanzania respectively. 

The trip was an incredible experience, which has left me with approximately 5000 digital photographs and 60 rolls of film to edit. And thus the reason, I haven’t been updating for the last while!

I hope to post some favorites from the trip to this blog and some other works in progress moving forward.

In September, I will begin my Masters at Ryerson, studying Documentary Media. I currently have two project ideas that i have been working on for the last two months as I would love to get a head-start before the program begins. I may post some work in progress to the blog.

Finally I have been shooting a bit more than usual for Torontoist.com, and have recently become a staff photographer for OpenFile Toronto. I will post some of my recent work from past stories here.

I landed in London around 8 am no more than 2 hour of sleep withe the intent to stay up all day photographing Londoners on the streets, while waiting for my connecting flight to Johannesburg 13 hours later.
